I met Leslie and The Pita Pitstop on FaceBook – she originated her Falafel Food Truck in Traverse City and I have been dreaming of trying her awesome-sounding homemade falafel goodness, but alas, who wants to drive three hours for lunch? Well, the foodie gods did me a good deed and brought The Pita Pitstop to the Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids, which is a do-able drive for lunch on a sunny Friday in July. She’s there every other Friday this summer, so do yourself a flavor favor and visit soon!
I’ve had some pretty good falafel sandwiches over the years, but The Pita Pitstop’s version features some ingredients that I say put them in a league all their own. The homemade hummus is spreadable perfection, the mediterranean salad was veggie-licious, fresh tomato added some nice texture and fruity flavor, and the pickled turnips added a color and crunch combination that made this falafel sandwich a multi-flavor-leveled marvel!
This is food truck/street food at it’s finest – simple, authentic ingredients, served fast, fresh and simply delicious – thanks, Leslie!!
